Future world music, a synthesis of ancient and modern sounds: electronics, Afro-Cuban drumming, Indonesian Gamelan in the space age.
14 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Ambient, WORLD: World Traditions
Details:
Io's full-length debut of futuristic global music is a hypnotic document of four years of immersion in the sounds of Miami, digital and divine. David Font, the multi-instrumentalist and producer behind the Io project, has delved deeply into both modern sound technology and traditional Afro-Cuban liturgical music.
Synthesized, ancient classical music traditions and high-tech digital experiments form a natural musical vocabulary. It is not rhythm, melody, or harmony that gives shape to music, but sound, acoustic, synthetic or sampled. Travelling through these sounds, recorded from Miami to Sweden to Brazil, the listener finds layer upon layer of meaning, moving from ambient meditations to abstract percussive tracks.
Featuring David Font on electronics, percussion, trumpet, and corneta china; Gino Coca-Mir on shakuhachi; Denis Quesada, Vovo Macedo, and Micheal Sotolongo on bata; and a remix by Otto Von Schirach (Schematic), the Mad Evil Scientist.
Packaged in a clear jewel case with transparencies and artwork by Lebo.
