Pounding on a cardboard keyboard, at age 6, at the dining room table for more than a year (until the family could afford an upright) was probably the first sign that music for Jane was going to be right up there with breathing.

Jane is known as one of the Northwestâs finest artisans singer, pianist, recording artist, songwriter, and self-taught painter. In her teenage years, Jane was accompanying choirs and national soloists for schools, churches and a wide variety of community functions. For the past two decades, she sang and played in many of Seattle/Bellevueâs finest hotels/restaurants, as well as acting/singing/co-directing in several community theater events. Jane recorded her first CD, âI Send You Loveâ, a Christmas album including six original compositions in 1999. Singing in the Total Experience Gospel Choir for two years was definitely one of her highlights. Jane has performed concerts in other states, and has also sung in other countries.

Since 1984, Jane has also developed a reputation as one of the finest commercial artisans in this area with faux painting, murals, and venetian plaster. A featured artisan in Seattleâs âStreet of Dreamsâ in 1999 and 2001, Jane was also
asked to work on a villa in France, and commissioned for commercial work in other states.

This new Concert Series âLove and Passion Music of the Soulâ¦In Any Languageâ is an ideal vehicle where Jane combines her trio of soulful artistry in singing, acoustic piano and painting in a way that will thrill audiences everywhere.

Jane's poetry, under her pen name of Carmen Rose, was first written in 2002, and has just now been published in this recording. "It has been sitting under lock and key in my credenzas until the right time. Only a few friends have been allowed to see the writings ...until now. It's time for the communion of Spirit and sensuality to be shared more through women on the planet, and "Saturday Night of the Soul" is just one more contribution to that global voice. I have many poems sitting in books, with the same flavor, on subjects ranging from war and peace, to relationships of all kinds...to family, and other topics. The response to "Saturday Night of the Soul" will give its own indication when the rest is ready to be published."

Jane Bakken resides with her husband of 25 years in the green hills of Washington State, with their son, in the first strawbale home in King County. She has also been a successful entrepreneur and business developer for more than 30 years, and continues to participate in interfaith and intercultural projects, as well as several business communities with her husband, Jack.
