Details:
"I quit school at the start of my senior year in high school." "There was a little disagreement between me and the faculty." "I ended up getting my diploma through courses at Texas Tech High School, but I had so much free time that year that I taught my self how to play guitar." "I don't suggest anyone quit school and take up guitar as a career choice, but that is really how I got to be here." ......Jake Kellen

Jake Kellen was born in Littlefield, TX. The same small west Texas that Waylon Jennings was born in. He grew up in a small west Texas farming community before moving to Lubbock in 2002 to attend LCU and play baseball there. "School was fun, but I found myself spending all my time playing my guitar instead of going to baseball practice or class." "I would play for my friends all night in the dorms or at house parties around town." "School was suffering and then I knew I had to make a choice. Either play music and go to school and risk being in college for 8 years, or give 100 to one.

Jake was influenced by great songwriters like Jerry Jeff Walker, Lyle Lovett, Ryan Adams, Gordon Lightfoot and Joe Ely. He credits Pat Green's first live album "Here We Go" as the album that opened up his eyes to Texas Music." "One summer at church camp my friend Angela Surber loaned me her CD player for two weeks. The only country CD she had was her big brother's copy of "Here We Go". Everything else she had in her collection was stuff I wasn't interested in so I listened to Pat Green. At the time I had never heard of Pat Green I wasn't that familiar with "Texas Music"."

Jake was recently selected to write and record a song for the Texas Forest Service. That song, "Don't Burn Texas Down" will be the Forest Service's centerpiece in their campaign against wild fires. (available free on Jake's website www.jakekellen.com)
