A review from Par Winberg of www.melodic.net
We've hyped this man before here at THE MELODIC NET and he's worth every penny of the hype, cause Jay Quinn have a melodic sense that a lot of other artists would sell their grandmothers to get. You can add a personal edge to that and you all understand that he's well worth checking out. The opener "Try To Listen" sets the tone directly with a cool mix between "Normal" modern rock and powerpop, and it continues with second out "Wait A Minute", which is like a mix between Semisonic and Fountains Of Wayne. Third out "After All" starts out acoustic and reach a climax in the refrain but doesn't come up to the same level as the two songs before. Fourth out "Bound" is a softer moment on the album and it's a great tune with a driven verse that takes us to a refrain that is simple and just perfect, with a more naked approach which suites his voice really well. And the last one out "Understand You" goes back to a rockier edge and is just all right in its powerpop sort of edge a'la Jon Brion. I miss the perfect chorus on that one... But as you all understand this is a sure check out and I'm sure you will be interested when you listen to him at his homepage. Jay Quinn is a really good artist I'm 100 sure we will hear much more of in the future.
