"Early" Electronica from Brooklyn circa 1998/1999
10 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Experimental, POP: Quirky
Details:
Hey there... This record definately falls into the experimental catagory. Most of the songs (w/ the exception of Dont Try it, Pretend to Care and obviously Phat Bottomd Girls) were collaged and went through numerous re-writes... I'd come up with the music first (Re-Birth 2.0/ Pro-Tools) and then over time super-impose about 3 sets of lyrics onto each one. 'Naive' for example - went through several major rewrites, but unfortunately never found a real 'chorus' before the due date of the record. Most of the songs are like that - explorations of ideas - open-ended charmers I like to think. If you asked, I'd say this goes back to me not really 'owning' the music...yet..
And then of course there's the 'Im singing through a telephone' vocal that I was quite attached to at that time... annoying, but consistent :) I also had to gate the hell out of the vocals because the 'noise floor' was so high (I literally had huge Semi trucks braking to a stop and then accelerating about 30 feet from my computer workstation - on the corner of Metropolitan/ Manhattan Ave in Brooklyn)...It was so loud there, I basically incorporated it into the sound of the record...
I got some great feedback on this project over the years - most notably from friends, but also from strange encounters - like the time my friend made Jann Wenner (the editor of Rolling Stone) listen to the whole thing (as I recall, he liked my voice and absolutely hated everything else..)Hey - I'll take that!
People still tell me they listen it and often ask when another one will make an appearance...
ahhh.. very soon
