Guitarist Jamal Millner has studied music since childhood, starting with lessons from West Virginia bluesman Nat Reese, and concluding his formal education in 1993 with a B.A. degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Virginia. Mr. Millner had the fortune of studying with noted scholars and musicians like Martin Williams (ed. Smithsonian collection of Classic Jazz), Roland Wiggins (noted jazz theoretician), and John D'earth (respected jazz trumpeter and member of Great American Music Ensemble, Bruce Hornsby Band) among others.
In addition to the aforementioned, Millner has performed with Clark Terry, R.L. Burnside, Art Baron, Buddy Guy, Los Lobos, the Dave Matthews Band, John Jackson, Cassandra Wilson, and countless others on stage and in the studio. Mr. Millner was also a member of Rounder Records recording artist Corey Harris 5x5 and has toured extensively throughout the US,Africa and Europe. Mr. Millner has performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He was also personally selected by Dave Matthews to edit the guitar and piano transcriptions of the platinum album Crash.
