LATIN: Rock en Espanol, ROCK: Funk Rock
Details:
Composer and performer, began his career studying music in local conservatories and performing in local pop/rock bands throughout Spain. Living in Madrid, Javier enrolled in EMC, a Berklee College affiliate, and studied with an eclectic group of prominent musicians from the Spanish music scene while participating in seminars with international jazz masters such as Gary Burton, John Abercrombie and Pat Metheny. On several occasions he shared the stage with renowned Flamenco-Jazz artists, including Paco de Lucia' band members Ruben Damtas, Tino di Geraldo and Jorge Pardo. Soon after, Javier Otero began to create his own innovative projects fusing ethnic and modern styles while composing score soundtracks for TV projects, documentaries, dance and theater. Bringing to life these ideas, Otero formed the band ARS.TORGA and toured successfully while participating in international festivals with recognized bands such as Al Di Meola, Spyro Gyra, Loreena McKennit and Night Noise. From this period came the 1998 CD release "Acrobatic Music" (Digital Audio Records). Also during this time Otero was hired by a local media network to create, direct and host a show that was broadcast for both television and radio. Meanwhile Javier Otero completed his formation with Acting School, World Dance, as well as his Law Degree studies. Before moving to the United States, he spent time in London where he met, studied and performed with Robert Fripp, Ayub Ogada and Sheila Chandra. Otero's travels extended to Latin America where he then immersed himself in the Afro-American Rhythms of Cuba and Brazil. After arriving in Miami in 1999, Otero developed an ethnic pop project while under contract producing and arranging for record company "Alcione" while maintaining professional contacts with producers such as Emilio Estefan and Desmond Child, and recording artists as Fito Paez, Miguel Bose and Alejandro Sanz. Otero moved to Los Angeles in 2001 and is currently creating new recording with some of the most acclaimed musicians in town, as the Grammy-winner Jon Gilutin, Neil Stubenhaus, Cassio Duarte, as well as collaborator-writer for LA-Postmusic and IndartMusic (media music libraries). As a live performer, Javier Otero's music has been performed in LA clubs such as House of Blues, Knitting Factory, or major events as the NAMM Show (Anaheim '03, '04 & '05), Bijan at Universal Amphitheatre ('03) US Governors Convention (Dana Point '03), 20th Century-Fox "Daredevil" opening event, California Latin-Majors Convention (Biltmore Hotel '02). Javier has also played by himself but has also been involved with several recording artists and producers in the California scene: Peter Rafelson (Madonna), Rafa Sardina (multi Grammy award winner), Julio Figueroa (Michael Jackson, Enrique Iglesias), J. Morelli (Al Jarreau), Rique Pantoja (Milton Nascimento, Djavan, etc), Mark Goldenberg (Jackson Browne, Ringo Starr, etc), Scott Vomvolakis (Rippingtones), Thania Sanz (Joe Zawinull), Tom Borton (Emmy award winner) John Karpowich (Grammy a.w.), Ignacio Elisabetski (Alejandro Lerner) Krassimir ("Gladiator"soundtrack), John Beasley (Miles Davis), Joey Heredia (Stevie Wonder) among many others. In June 2004, Otero was on "CM-Barcelona", the largest-audience late show in Spanish TV.
