Jazthemainiac born James Gibbs III is a native of Irvington, New Jersey who began playing the trumpet at the age of 14 in the 8th grade under the instruction of Doug Howell at Myrtle Ave School. He was introduced to the world of playing jazz from Radam Schwartz (organist) at the 15 and he began playing the trumpet and learning jazz very seriously. His idles are: Quincy Jones, Clifford Brown, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nicholas Peyton, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and a few others.
James has performed, and met with many greats like: Dr.Donald Byrd, (the late) Dr. Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, T.S. Monk, Russell Malone, Cecil Brooks III, Radam Schwartz, (the late) Doc Cheatam, Nicholas Peyton, Christian McBride, Herbie Hancock, Gregory Tardy, Jon Faddis, Roy Hargrove, and many others.
You can find James playing at venues all across New Jersey. His shows are spectacular from start to finish, and he keeps you wanting more. His collaborators are among the worlds best musicians, writers, and entertainers.
