The album Lemon Yellow, by the Jeff Harris Band, is a collection of songs that speak to times of transition in a person's life; times when staying with the one you loved was just as difficult as leaving, when the touch of someone else's hand was enough to make you nervous, or when you had to choose between following your dreams and paying your rent. Beautifully simple in melody and delivery, the songs from Lemon Yellow remind us of a time in our lives, whether last year or last week, when the future wasn't quite so decided.
Unable to be easily defined, Jeff Harris' style seemingly is inspired as much by folk heroes Paul Simon and James Taylor as it is by alternative rock bands like Wilco and Counting Crows. While songs such as "Sweet October Sun", "Big Time", and "Guatemala" may draw comparisons to the music of the great folk singers of the 1970s, the songs "Perfect", "Pop Star", and "Treat Her Well" tell their tales with a pop-fueled energy that would merit an audience sing-a-long.
