Honestly, there aren't too many things that I find harder with my music than trying to word it into a description. I would like to think that I have found my own sound, but that doesn't help you know what to expect from it. So let me tell you what I like about music so you will know what I try to capture in mine.
Foremost, Lyrics are what I would probably spend the most time on. I love listening to well written, thought out, more philosophical lyrics, and that is what I try to make mine. I try to look at life in a positive way, everything helps you grow as a person if you let it. And I hope that can help someone else that may be going through the same thing or feeling the same way.
I pretty much approach every song with that in view, not that I don't love a good don't have to think about it song, I just don't write like that very often.
Musically I am greatly influenced by RnB, and though it does rub off in my sound it doesn't fall into that category. I love vocal harmony for how much it can lift a song, so there is always plenty of harmonies through my songs. There is a song on this album that is built around vocal harmonies only.
I think the space is as important as what you are placing around it. So I try and give not only the lyrics space to be heard, but the music and melody space to breathe as well.
And though there are electric instruments creating a lot of the sound, it is with a more acoustic approach that my songs are formed. A bit more stripped back than produced.
And the last thing I will say is the emotion. Getting the right sound for the right content, not just because it may sound good, but because it is what the song needed. Staying true to what I am trying to say within a song. Within the music, within the vocal, I like everything to compliment what the story behind the song is. Trying to combine my best performances, but also keeping those imperfections that I think are an important part of creating and capturing that point in time.
