FOLK: Modern Folk, FOLK: Political
Details:
The Australian singer-songwriter, Jim Lesses has been writing songs since his mid-teens, although he only began performing them publicly on regular basis in 1996. As Jim likes to say, he is something of a "late bloomer."
However, this is not necessarily a bad thing, since he feels that it is only over the past few years that his songwriting has matured to the point where his songs are worth a public airing.
While it has been a 'long apprenticeship,' it does have at least one other benefit according to Jim, who says, "At least no-one is ever going to burden me with a 'New Bob Dylan' tag!"
Jim has set himself several musical goals for the new Millennium, one of which he has already achieved with the release of his first recording, Sometimes I Wake Up Naked, from the song of the same name.
All in all, Jim is looking forward to his 'coming out.'
"The title track opener is a classic 'list' song...dealing with the doubts, insecurities, contradictions and dilemmas facing individuals...this is a brooding, intense and powerful song."
"A close relation of the title song, at least lyrically, is Feel The Fear (and make it run). More of a rallying call with its optimistic stance, it's one of the most rhythmic and catchy songs in the set."
"September 11, 2001, was a major signpost for these times, an epoch-making event for the world of the twenty first century. Jim's, Night Falls Over Manhattan (sung by Trish Smylie), a gentle, poignant and reflective song, looks at that event. Blessed with a lovely melody, there is both beauty and wisdom at work here."
