Andre Tanker (Now deceased - died on February 28th 2003) is one of the most accomplished musicians/composers to come out of the caribbean and by extension the world. He is well known for hits such as Sayamanda, Basement Party, Forward Home, Ben Lion and lots more. He composed many musical scores for plays and films including TiJean and His Brothers for Shakespeare in Central Park 1973. The score for Playboy of The West Indies performed at The Lincoln Centre in 1992. Measure For Measure for Shakespeare in Central Park in 1992 starring Kevin Kline and Blair Underwood. What My Mother Told Me a Trinidad/ British Film aired on British television and in festivals throughout the world. Bim a Trinidad/ US film which he composed the track for in 1973. He toured all over the Caribbean and the World with his band The One World Contra Band and even did a Live performance series shot in Jamaica for The Bet on Jazz Channel. His first CD Children Of The Big Bang released in September of 1996 is one of the best CDS to have come out of the Caribbean. He drew inspiration from all over the Globe which is reflective in his unique style of music loved by people all over the world. His music fuses many styles from African to East Indian to Jazz, Blues, R&B to Rock. Andre Tanker is a Caribbean Icon that is truly missed but whose legacy is cherished by his fans and his family who carry it on. The Tanker Family released Andre Tanker Greatest Hits Vol 1 a project Andre had in progress before he died in 2003 and Andre Tanker Wild in 2004. There is lots more to come as there is an extensive catelogue of music. This CD is really vintage Andre Tanker, he always evolved his music and has many different versions of his songs. This CD has the original versions of his hits and is a favorite of his fans.The CD sells well in Trinidad the Caribbean in New York and Canada.
