An accomplished multi-instrumentalist and singer, James began composing music at an early age on piano and then guitar. He continued to hone his musical skills throughout high school and college in a variety of concert, stage and rock bands (sax & guitar) as well as chamber ensembles (flute & sax) and traditional and gospel choirs.
After earning a degree in music composition and voice, James was a featured soloist in a variety of musicals, operas, symphonic choruses and performed in clubs, churches and concert venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. His arranging and performing skills soon found an outlet as bassist, keyboardist and arranger for several East Bay & Los Angeles artists and as part of opening acts for The David Bromberg Band and Tower of Power.
During a three year stint working for Warner Bros. Music in Los Angeles, CA, James polished his songwriting skills and performed his original songs at clubs throughout L.A. including Donte's,The Improv, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel , and the Playboy Club.
Wanting to write and perform music that expressed the power of spirit, James quit the music business and performing for several years to pursue a master's degree in transpersonal counseling and to deepen spiritually. For the last 12 years he has focused on inspiring and uplifting others through writing, recording and performing inspirational music.
A dynamic speaker and performer, James is a popular guest for musical and speaking engagements at meetings, conferences, expositions and new-thought church services. He has appeared as guest musician at Unity Church & Church of Religious Science services in Northern California, Oregon and Washington. James and his wife & musical partner, Carmen DeVida, are currently living near Santa Cruz, California.
