Renaissance in the Rain
was an attempt at letting the musical chips fall where they may.

The recording experience for this CD was unique for me, in that I had no idea what most of these songs were going to sound like until they were finished. I had completed two previous CD's as a member of the band West of Arizona (Area to Vary and Virtual Vinyl, which can be found at CD Baby) in which the approach had been quite different. Each song had been rehearsed and refined long before stepping into the studio. This time, the creative process took on a new form, as I drew upon the intuition and skills of other musicians to build each song, one instrument at a time.
Acquiring and learning a new digital recorder was step one. Then, over a period of nearly two years, different musicians came and played at my home recording studio in Central Point, Oregon. I slowly built each song, beginning with the inspired styling of drummer David Mathieu, who played to raw guitar and vocal scratch tracks. Weeks later, Jack Fischer added his skilled interpretations on electric bass. Additional tracks were added: vocals, keyboards, violin, etc., resulting in a raw musical "soup", ready for cooking. The slow simmering process included countless hours of mixing, cutting and pasting and fine-tuning. I hope you find the resultant project to your liking.
