Details:
Mostly done in a New Hampshire basement on cheap equipment, this recording is both raw and refined. I was living the winter in a tipi in the Catskill Mountains at the time of recording this CD. Many of the songs were written in my tipi on chilly mornings by the warm fire. I first record the guitar and vocal tracks simultaneously, then do the overdubs of other instrumentation, such as up-right bass, piano, etc. Often it takes me a few tries at a song before I get a take that I'm satisfied with, but for this recording I kept the first take of pretty much every song! I think it had something to do with the way I was living at the time, and keeping the raw energy of the first try really appealed to me.

I say this CD is refined because, well . . . because somehow it is. It's not just me and my guitar, and the final product on a few of the tracks sound to me almost classical. I suppose it's the instrumentation, and perhaps the piano in particular has something to do with it. Anyhow, people have said that it is hard to place in any musical genre, which is what us singer/sonwriter types always love to say about our music! It was really a compliment.

The CD features 11 original songs, 3 of them recorded a few years back in Colorado, plus an extra track which is a gift to my brother and sister-in-law. Check out my web site www.jameskrueger.com. Also look out for my new CD Fine, to be oficially released in January 2004. Thanks.
