The Rose City Projectâs Rose City is the first compilation of original music featuring some of Portland, Oregonâs finest musicians. The idea behind the Rose City Project is to bring together local musicians to create new music as well as to inspire younger musicians and support music educational endeavors. All proceeds from the CD will go to the Rose City Foundation, which will benefit music education by:

⢠Providing gear for schools
⢠Providing scholarship money for advanced music education
⢠Offering the opportunity for school orchestras, jazz band, vocal ensembles, choirs, to perform live and record the experience AND to create CD masters for their own fundraising purposes
⢠Offering hands on opportunities to learn about a career in music retail, music wholesale, and musical equipment industry

The Rose City Project was founded by Cliff Castle, who also produced the 11 track CD. âThe original idea,â Castle states, âwas to write a cool, funky song as a tribute to the city of Portland. We came up with Rose City, and in the process, had so much fun that we decided to make it into a full project and include as many local musicians as possible. The players are all superb. Weâve got seasoned vets, as well as newcomers, and each of them is a star in his own right. The musical talent in Portland is astounding; there are many more artists who want to be part of the next project.â

As Castleâs musical background is based around classic R & B, funk, jazz, and pop; the songs on Rose City are all slanted in those directions. âI like to write songs with simple lyrics, strong melodies, and a chorus that you can sing along to. If it doesnât sound good with just acoustic guitar and voice, it doesnât make the cut. That said, when you add the sounds of some of Portlandâs best the music really blossoms!â
