Details:
"Bad things happen all the time" is the second album from John Jackson who is one of the UK's most intriguing new singer/songwriters. Skillfully following "Strange Attractors", the debut album, this is a sparkling, emotive and edgy collection of songs where Indie rock, protest song and electro acoustic pop combine to potent effect. The essential album for discontents and real music enthusiasts everywhere. This is a classy album with a good mix of eclectic pop, 60's esq folk, alt country and Indie electro. Very Paddy McAloon. John's vocals are smooth, melodic and melancholy on some tracks and angry, loud and full of protest on others. As well as a very strong melodic drive this album prides itself on witty lyrics that come in the shape of political, emotional and poetic phrases. The first single off the album is the title track " Bad Things happen all the time" with it's Radiohead-esq intro, Prefab Sprout-esq vocals and extremely catchy hookline. " Richard Nixon gave us the thumbs up" sings John like a melodic robot delivering a message from planet Jackson. Also featuring the lovely Indie ballad " Mission Creep" with it's Gene-esq mood. Violins, trumpets, Old Radio samples, acoustic guitars, noisy funky guitars and real life emotion. This album was written, performed , recorded and produced by John Jackson himself. Also featuring the amazingly beautiful acoustic classic " Through The Glass" with it's extremely folky Lennon and Pogues-esq chilling qualities. All in all a very good follow up to the debut album " Strange Attractors". An Indie artist who does it for the love, art and pure melody. Artists like this stumble onto fame naturally and have real fans who care about the music. " I'll Miss you, You're my first and my last". This top album has a moody concept feel to it sliding from one song to another with a lot of atmosphere and mood. " I get Bored, I get Angry, I set myself on Fire". Great Art.
