As demonstrated on their new 6-song EP âBorn a Bad Seedâ, the Bad Lieutenants bring influences from their prior lives in hardcore, punk, and metal but clearly worship at the altar of rock 'n roll. Despite diverse musical backgrounds among the members of the band and almost annual changes in the lineup, rock 'n roll has consistently been the common language, offering a vocabulary that may as easily include a riff that sounds like itâs straight out of lynyrd Skynyrd as a riff that sounds like the Ramones. From a very slow and tentative beginning five years ago, the Bad Lieutenants are now at full throttle, with another full length album in the works and plans to play beyond the areas of Boston and Waterbury, CT, the bandâs hometowns.

The Bad Lieutenantsâ mission is to return to basic, dirty, pleasure-seeking musical entertainment free from being limited by adhering to metalâs complexity, punkâs conscience, and hardcoreâs monotony. With a name inspired by Abel Ferraraâs classic 1992 cult flick Bad Lieutenant, the band was formed with the idea of achieving states of cathartic regression along the lines of those portrayed in some of Harvey Keitelâs more embarrassing moments of the film. The band hopes that the Werner Herzog remake will do the subject matter justice, and has volunteered to write a soundtrack to try and give the newer film legitimacy.
