Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Bob Petrocelli has many years of experience in a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from doo wop to free jazz, specializing in Blues and other roots-oriented projects for the past 15 years.
Currently, in addition to leading his own group, Bob has been guitarist, songwriter and musical director for bluesman Robert Charels for the past 2+ years. Bob's writing contribution to the latest Charels' release "Three Leg Dogs and Old Skool Cats" was the song "Hey Shellena", which was the first selection from the CD to receive radio airplay and was featured on the nationally syndicated (102 stations) "Blues Deluxe" radio program. The song "Gulf Coast Blues" from the new Bob P solo CD "Shanghai Shuffle" has received Honorable Mention in the 15th Billboard World Song Contest.
Bob has several CD projects currently in development, including the above mentioned collection of original Blues/R&B songs entitled "Shanghai Shuffle" and an appearance as guitarist on the next CD by jazz saxophonist Richard Brinka.
Bob was a Music Major at Hofstra University, and was involved in the Greenwich Village rock scene of the â60s playing such clubs as the Cafe Wha?, NightOwl Cafe, Cafe Bizarre, etc. which spawned the Lovin' Spoonful, Blues Magoos, Jimi Hendrix and many other artists. During the 70âs and 80âs, he worked as a sideman and/or co-leader for a wide variety of local and touring acts. He also composed, recorded, and produced music for radio and other commercial spots while running a recording service during the 80's. Since the early 90s, Bob has been focused on both roots based writing and performance using tradional blues and R&B as an inspiration.
Over the years, Bob has performed with or opened for a wide array of artists including Robert Charels, Paul Oscher (Muddy Waters Band), The Nawlins Funk Band, Michael Hill's Blues Mob, Little Toby Walker, Jerry Nolan (NY Dolls), Patrick Sky, Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge, The Del Satins, The Capris, The Dubs, The Devotions, The Ovations, The Elegants, The Ferrari Brothers, Jazz greats Richard Davis, & Buster Williams, among many others.
