Details:
Learning to play piano as a child, mostly by ear, Jim Stephens has developed a unique approach to the instrument, and now works with it to pour out his emotions with words and music. Never one to shy away from honestly and openly describing the world he sees around him, Jim writes songs about (as he terms it) "The important issues of the heart and soul." Originally from Chicago, Jim spent much of his younger life writing songs, performing as a keyboardist and vocalist in various genres and traveling throughout the U.S.A. All the while, as musical opportunities came and went, Jim worked a vast array of "day-jobs", from factories, warehouses and restaurants to airlines and real estate...offering fertile ground for his insightful lyrics. Deciding to become a solo singer/songwriter in the mid-1980's, Jim returned to the Chicago area and honed his craft for nearly eleven years. These were years of some solitude and loneliness, of which all writers know only too well... The strong desire to have a real community of friends and a "life" of sorts, led Jim to Nashville, where he had visited several times, and was impressed by the vibrant community of creative people residing in this rather "kinder and gentler" city. Now, many years later, Jim has found those friends and has adopted "Music City" as his permanant home. "There is an amazing music scene that flourishes here, completely under the radar of the country music buisness. This has become the best life I ever imagined for myself." Jim stated recently. Jim continues to write, perform and occasionally travel from his Nashville home, and plans on releasing more recordings in the years to come.
