"Just Me and Dad" is what we call ourselves...and that is all there is. Just me and Dad sing and play our guitars and Dad occasionally plays the mandolin. We harmonize very well on the songs that dad has written. "Dad", Hugh Cantrell was born on a small farm in the hills of Missouri in October of 1944. (See him on the front cover of the cd of the 1949 Cantrell family reunion. He is the second boy sitting on the ground as you look from left to right.) "I", Ben Cantrell born in McCall, Idaho was born in July of 1969. (Obviously, I wasn't even a twinkle in "Dad's" eye at that family reunion of 1949.)
Most of our songs were written by Dad and encompasses 60 years of memories. From a childhood on the old home place.(See the house on the back of the cd.) With eight siblings to many hours in the saddle with his Dad and brothers to raising children of his own...there has been plenty to draw memories from.
Dad's songs are written about home, family, friends, and better days gone by. We feel that these songs will strike a familiar chord of memories within you.
I, Ben Cantrell have a bachelor's degree in music performance from Albertson College of Idaho. My voice training has been a real asset to dad and I in the making of this cd. We do the bulk of our performing on the back porch, in the back yard, or where ever family and friends get together.
We feel you will truely enjoy this cd. They are songs with lyrics that many people can relate to and easily understand.
