Elusive was a CD of many tears and frustrations. We never had enough gear or enough money to remedy the problem that we didn't have enough gear! Then to top it all off Sam and Mariano took off without a real goodbye and we completed Elusive on our own (Hence Track 10 If there ever was a time was born and dedicated to you both!). Michael and I really thought Elusive would never make it but the songs kept coming back, especially Australian Soldier and American Clone, which have such strong messages.

Worldwide, few professional opera- singers can claim so diverse a repertoire of talents as New Zealand's Deborah Wai Kapohe, B.Mus, BA, LRSM.
Recognised as New Zealand's most promising soprano (the Dominion 2002), Deborah is also highly regarded as a contemporary singer,singer/songwriter and guitarist .
Born in Southland, she has performed in operas, musicals, contemporary Maori music,arts festivals, proms, concerts, recitals ,self accompanied guitar and voice recitals and special events throughout New Zealand and Australia, as well as in the UK, China and South Africa.
Her traditional operatic roles include Pamina in The Magic Flute, Mimi in La Boheme, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Sophie in Massenet's Werther, Adalgisa in Norma, Nannetta in Falstaff, and Leila in The Pearl Fishers.
Her Premiere Opera performances include Outrageous Fortune by New Zealand composer Gillian Whitehead; Wide Sargasso Sea and Gauguin for Chamber Made in Australia; and Grandma's Shoes, a joint production between Opera Australia and Theatre of Image in Sydney, Jan 2000.
Special events include singing for the Duke of Edinburgh World Fellows at St James Palace, Cathcart Spring proms at the Royal Albert Hall, with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Olympic Arts Festival, National Anthems at Jade Stadium and for Royalty at Huka Lodge.
Since 1998 she has released three CDs as a singer songwriter in the alternative folk genre on her label Ring Trout CDs.
2004 began with a commission to write and perform a song for Waitangi Day with the Southern Sinfonia in Dunedin followed by a tour of New Zealand with Arts on Tour New Zealand.The latest project is to sing "Marguerite" in Faust in Hong Kong .
Deborah has sponsored the Pacific Songwriting Competition which closes March 2005 and carries $25000 worth of prizes .
