Details:
Critically acclaimed Irish singer, songwriter, and musician Dave Conway releases his first solo album. Co-produced and recorded with legendary Dublin muso Andrew Bass, and backed by a host of Irelands finest rock musicians, Highs and Hellos is an accomplished debut, featuring 12 tracks of high-calibre rock graffiti.
Daveâs knack for writing eminently listenable, yet quirky songs is at its finest all the way throughout, whether itâs the sing-along kookiness of All the Time, the mantra-led Always, the simple but beautiful Deceived by Ecstasy, or the 80âs style rock-out Leaving.
Whilst the genres vary and no two songs sound similar, the quality is consistently high, and the album manages to achieve the almost elusive quality of being accessible to a wide range of musical tastes.
Aficionados of rock music from the 60âs onwards will find much to satisfy their musical needs, whilst casual listeners will find several tunes that will fit neatly into their drawer of favourite songs.
Album review: The Irish Times 8/8/08
The debut solo album from ex-Trip Hazard front man Dave Conway is the cathartic journal of a man coming to terms with himself. The problem with works peppered with personal revelations is that they can be a bit inaccessible. But Conway's themes are, if not universal, at least common, reflected in such song titles as Honest with Ourselves , Doing My Best and Change of Scene . Producer Andrew Bass has allowed a definite David Bowie influence here and there, while a couple of tracks have 1980s soft-rock vibes including extended guitar solos. The strongest melody overall is in Deceived by Ecstasy , a slightly dreamy, slightly edgy ballad, the paradox giving an idea of the contradictions found throughout the album. Overall, this is the work of a man finding his feet, perhaps personally as well as musically, an aim that can't be faulted. CLAIRE LOOBY (The Ticket â Irish Times 8/8/08)
