Warb Kendell Wilcox, known to the hip hop world as "Kay'D May'D", was born in Mobile, Alabama. Kay'D May'D began his hip hop journey in 1989, during an annual trip to visit relatives in New York. Here his uncle, "Van 50 Grand", and cousin had become members of the rap group "First Crime Family." They brought him to one of their studio recording sessions, which set the stage for Kendell's decision to pursue a career in the music business. This experience, along with a burning passion for music and the death of a close friend on the streets of Mobile, brought him to move to New York on a quest to become a major player in the competitive hip hop scene.

In New York, Kendell, along with a lifetime friend, formed the group Immediate Family. After struggling to find the right producer and studio for their unique sound, Kendell enrolled at The Institute of Audio Research where he obtained a degree in Audio Engineering and Music Production. After engineering at some of New York City's finest studios, Kendell decided to further his dreams by building his own studio, BlackRoom Studios. With BlackRoom's productions as the backbone, Immediate Family joined forces with Blood, Sweat, and Money, and a group based out of Brooklyn's Faragut Housing Project. They fused together to form the underground hip hop juganut, SLUMLANDZ.

Slumlandz, with members hailing from Brooklyn, Bronx, and Manhattan, began performing all over New York City. After the release of their first CD, "Living A Dream," they gained street credibility and local fame that spread from BlackRoom's Washington Heights neighborhood to gigs in California, Alabama, and Florida. The release of their second CD, "United We Stand" in 2000, certified Slumlandz as legends of New York's uptown underground scene.

With the success of the two Slumlandz CDs, BlackRoom Studios began to produce music for Slam for the Streets and AND1 Mix Tour, further solidifying their street credibility. After fifteen years of cultivating what is known as his "Dirty East" flow, Kay'D May'd and the sound of BlackRoom are out on their own. Like the hurricanes that frequently rip through his native Alabama, May'D is bringing on a storm!
