Details:
I was born and raised on a farm in eastern North Carolina. I was one of 10 boys and 2 girls born to the late Fred and Hattie Suggs. I may be new to recording but I am by no means new to gospel singing. I began singing at the age of 12 with an all brothers' group called the "Suggs Brothers". We were managed by our father. My brothers and I were a welcome sound on Sunday mornings for many years on local radio station WVOT in Wilson, NC and WFAG in Farmville, NC. Doors were opened for numerous singing engagements from North Carolina to Massachusetts. We had to turn many of them down. We recorded 2 singles and one LP record. We opened for such gospel legends as Bob Washington and the Gospel Airs, Tommy Ellison and the Five Singing Stars, the Soul Stirrers and Clarence Fountain and the Five Blind Boys of Alabama. I continuied singing with my brothers until everyone grew up and began to go their separate ways.
After graduating from South Greene High School in Snow Hil, NC, I attended Lenoir Community College in Kinston, NC for one year and NY University for one semester before deciding to enlist in the US Air Force. Shortly after joining the Air Force, I married my high school sweetheart, Hattie Blount. God blessed us with two boys--Anthony and Tyrone. During my career in the military I sang with the church choir, solo and played the guitar in Torrejon, Spain; Dover, DE; Lajes Field, Azores; Little Rock, AR; Andersen AFB, Guam and Goldsboro, NC.
In 2006, I began writing songs. God began to put different people in my path and the recording opportunities were presented to me. In 2007, I entered the recording studio for my first session. Until that point, I never had any real thoughts, plans or desires to do any recordng. I was satisfied with occasionally singing here and there as opportunities presented themselves. I was very excited the first few sessions in the studio but satan began to put second thoughts in my mind. I love spending time with my family, fishing and golfing. I began to be concerned about the time factor and the expense of the project and not having the time to do the things I enjoyed most. But thank God for redirecting my focus! From that point on, the project was simply a joy to complete. This project has been the most challenging experience of my spiritual life but it has also been the most rewarding one.
I truly count it a joy to have been chosen by God to spread His word through songs. I take no credit for the success of this assignment from God because all the credit, all the honor and all the glory belongs to Him! I say this because He gave me eight of the songs and the arrangements to the two public domain songs. Every song is filled with His word. As you listen to the words of these songs, you won't have to wonder if I am singing about God.
