Synchronicity.

When I was in my 20's I bought an album in a discount bin by a band called Comox. One song in particular captured my imagination and that was Cabbage Town Lady. A great song and for some reason it also indelibly set the vision of Cabbagetown in my head.

In 2005 I moved to Toronto from Ottawa and stayed at a friendâs place on Queenâs Quay. It was a long cold winter and I have to say I didnât like Hog Town very much. Traffic, smog and cold grey streets seemed to close in around me. Come May I had to find another place to live and after a long and difficult search I stumbled upon Cabbagetown. It was spring and the gardens were in a riot of flowers. The wealthy were smack up against the poor and it reminded me of the place I had lived most of my life in Ottawa, the Byward Market. But most of all that song came back to me and reminded me of all the favorite things of my youth: young love, endless dreams, late nights drinking wine and playing guitar with my friends, playing in a band.

And so I found a great apartment in Cabbagetown and moved in. Over the course of two years now Iâve seen this community in all its highs and lows and this spring I began to scribble down some lyrics and hum a few melodies that finally lead me to recording this CD. In the end Cabbagetown has had a huge impact on my life and I like to think that in a few years, someone will discover this CD in a discount bin, and so the circle will begin again.
