"The singer is Billie Ray Martin and sheâs one of the living legends in modern music history and one of the best voices on planet earth." DJ HELL
âBillie Ray Martin is the thinking manâs diva, never being afraid to take a chance and push forward.â Dean Thatcher
Dubbed âthe Queen of electronic soulâ, Billie Ray Martin first came to prominence leading the acclaimed deep house act Electribe 101, her unique voice leaving critics struggling to find words to match its beauty. Electribe 101 scored a series of hits including the classic âTalking With Myselfâ before Billie departed to continue exploring fusions of electronic music and soul. After releasing the thoroughly scary âPersuasionâ and the monumentally beautiful âFour Ambient Talesâ, Billie found herself with a worldwide number one in âYour Loving Armsâ, now regarded as one of the all-time classics of dance music. Three more hits and the album âDeadline for My Memoriesâ followed, allowing Billie to tour extensively.
Since then Billie has worked with Ann Peebles and Carla Thomas, together with Al Greenâs and Aretha Franklin's musicians on her album "18 Carat Garbage", developing and to a point perfecting her dream of âMemphis meets Deutschlandâ.
She followed this with a series of acclaimed singles and collaborations â from her own âDead Againâ and âNo Brakes On My Rollerskatesâ to âJe Regrette Everythingâ with DJ Hell and âBright Lights Fadingâ with Scottish duo Slam, resulting in an abundance of renewed media praise and dance chart entries.
In Summer 2005, Billie starting taking to the decks with the launch of her own London clubnight âKomputerliebeâ, which she is relaunching on the 29th of August 08 in Frankfurt. As DJ, Billie delivers a distinctive and spot-on set of cutting-edge new Electro-Tech. The growing response to her DJing has led to bookings taking her across the UK and worldwide, generating a frenzied reaction wherever she plays.
Billie is currently working on her new solo album, which she describes as the ultimate pop-fest, with more than a cutting-edge twist. The first single âUndisco Meâ, a Moroder-fest released in May 2007 on Rebirth, was the highest new entry on the UK club charts and hit the top 10 of all the cool cuts and buzz charts, receiving an overload of praise and plays. It is now taking off in the U.S. having just entered the Billboard dance charts at number 35. The follow-up single is nearing completion.
Meanwhile, Billie has formed a new project. Under the banner of The Opiates, she (and Robert Solheim on production) have finished perfecting their album âHollywood Under The Knifeâ. With that rare match of songwriting and cutting-edge beats and bleeps, they have already been dubbed âthe Carpenters of electroâ. The Opiates made their live debut at Rough Trade, Brick Lane, London in March this year, to coincide with their first release âAnatomy Of A Plastic Girl E.P.â, out on Kudos UK.
They already count DJs such as HELL and Mark Moore among their fans.
Autumn 2008 will see the release of the song âSilver Machineâ, again with HELL, on his new album to be released on Gigolo Records.
