Despite her many interests and commitment to community, Jessi Robertson's most intense passions are songwriting and performance. She has received comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Tori Amos, and PJ Harvey, but Jessi's style isn't easy to pin down. Trained in jazz and classical voice, her influences include rock, r&b, alt-country, and blues.

Jessi has also found time to become deeply involved in the local New York City music scene. She is one of the co-founders of the Local Correspondents Community for independent artists, a contributor to Urban Folk Magazine, and authors a resource blog for independent musicians. For the past four years she has curated shows for September Concert (http://septemberconcert.org), a worldwide concert series to promote community and healing on 9/11.

On July 20th, 2008, Jessi released her new album "Who We Are, What We Have Done." The album was recorded at home with Jessi filling the roles of performer, arranger, engineer, graphic designer, and producer. About the CD:
"I made these recordings alone in a tiny eggshell blue painted Brooklyn bedroom. Sometimes there are weird little clicks, muffled thumps, and occassionally the distant sound of traffic. Over the course of 6 months I relearned piano and engineering, and I snatched the minutes and hours of relative quiet where I could find them. For ten years I've wanted to make a CD, and though I never imagined this would be the end product, I'm very proud of this strange, glorious mess that I made all on my own.

The name of the album comes from my song Papers & Magazines:'We don't need our faces in the papers and magazines. We don't need our names in the annals of history, 'cause we know who we are and what we have done, the monsters we fought and the battles we won. We don't need anything from anyone.' "
