Richard L. Boykin - "The Life and Times of King B"

Biography by: Kevin J Houston

Richard L. Boykin II A.K.A. King B, was born October 21, 1974 in Mobile, Alabama. King B is the son Richard L. Boykin Sr. and Louise Boykin.

At the age of 11 King B, his mother and younger sister, Nikisha move to Birmingham, Alabama this time at which his music career had it's beginning. King B was inspired to get in to the hip-hop game by such old school artists like Run DMC, LL Cool J, The Fat Boys and Rakim & Eric B.

King B won his first talent show (1st place) at Abrams Middle School. This talent show is what motivated him to continue with his music. Throughout his childhood King B did many shows and events around Birmingham and surrounding areas, performing his songs.

Also throughout the beginning of his career and even today King B's says his mother was and is very supportive of his music.

In 1994 King B graduated from Ensley High School. Also at this time he released his first project "King B Going For Broke" on Black American Records. The album was very successful and inspired King B to go even farther with his music.

From 1995 to 2002 King B has work hard as an independent artist. He has worked hard at his independency like artists such as "Master P" and "Too Short". He has travel the US from north to south selling and promoting his music. King B had several independent projects that he has released on his on record label KB Records. The projects were, "Back To Front", "Southern Drop", "Bounce Wit 'Em", and "Hit The Deck".

King B has work with other successful artist and groups such as "The 2 Live Crew" where he was feature on the song "2 Live Party" along with "FreakNasty". He has also work on several projects with "FreakNasty", several unreleased projects with "Kilo Ali" and also worked with "David C", former member of the "Temptations".

King B has just in the recent years from a 50/50 partnership with "Gary Young" in forming "Jami Records" based out of East Point, Georgia. This is the label on which he released the hot project "G-life" and his current new single "I'm Wit Da Dirty South".

Throughout his mission in search of the right music business deal, King B has turned down offers by "Gene Griffin - Sounds of Atlanta", "Mike Walker - Southern Music Distribution" and "Select-O-Hits". King B is in search of that offer, to help him advance his career but yet not lose the foundation he has already laid as an independent artist.

Looking toward the future of his music career, being the versatile and non-trendy artist he is, King B desire to work with artists such as "Trick Daddy", "Scarface", "Too Short", "NAS", "Nelly" and "Angie Stone".

Throughout the creation of all his music, there is one thing King B wants all his fans and listener to remember as I quoted him saying, "I'm Wit Da Dirty South"
