The Band

Fairbanks' nucleus was formed in the smallish town of Norfolk, Nebraska. Performers in the same high school jazz band, Jeff Wortmann, Adam Wagner, and Bryan Moeller melded their respective musical pursuits by starting their own band. School ties further expanded membership as Adam met bassist, Quentin "Q" Schmidt, during a stint at the local college. After a move to Kansas City and reorganization, the group christened themselves "Fairbanks" after some lettering on a [furnace] in the basement of Wagner's house at the time.

The Music

Fairbanks' masterfully manifold approach hits on all levels, enrapturing the audience with a diverse tapestry of sound. It's rock, buttressed by jazz and folk, delivered with the sensibility and tradition of bona fide music-makers. No flailing of empty hooks, or hiding in hollow, prefab shells. No contempt for the listener disguised as art. Just real music that reaches out and thumps your chest and says, "Hey man ... listen to this." Upbeat and leavening. Sweeping and somber. Frenetic and nerve-tapping. Whether it's straight or serrated, these Kansas City showmen cut a fine-sounding track, they truly are purveyors of the good stuff -- and proud of it.
