"...will release the tension of the day and set your spirits free of burden and worry."

About the Artist
Composer, flautist, workshop facilitator, Maria Kostelas founded Flutes of the World Music to express her love of world cultures through the voices of her 100 piece international collection. She has released five solo compact discs of original music. Additionally, she has she recorded "Aligning Chakras," a meditation CD with Shirley MacLaine and has composed several commissioned works including a CD for the World Presidents Organization Conference on Mind/Body Health. Maria's first instrument was a silver flute which she mastered while preparing for a career in classical music. During college, under the tutelage of master teachers, Jean Pierre Rampal and James Galway, Maria began to form her own identity as a an artist. "Growing up in a multi-cultural family inspired me to begin composing and writing music to express the beauty of the world's indigenous cultures. This fed my creative soul, and in my search to express myself I discovered the joy of sharing the healing spirit of world music," says Maria. Developing her signature style - a blend of classical, and world influences, Maria's music was soon heralded for its ability to unite body, mind and spirit by renowned authors and celebrities including Christiane Northrup, M.D., Judith Orloff, M.D., Joan Borysenko,Ph.D., and Shirley MacLaine. Maria also found a gift for composing personal healing songs when she ministered to a cousin who was severely injured in a car accident. "She came to me in what I can only describe as a series of dreams asking me to look inside her body, and give her some insight about her condition. I composed a song of healing for her which proved to be very helpful, and subsequently guided me to a deeper connection with Spirit. This along with my shamanic training shifted my composing and performing style enabling me to provide a deeper and healing experience for my listeners and clients." Joan Borysenko, Ph.D co-founder of the Harvard University Mind/Body Clinic says, "Maria Kostelas has an astonishing gift. She can catch the mood of an audience in her music, carrying them to their hearts on a stream of sound. I loved working with her in guided meditations. She caught every nuance of emotion behind the words, and wove a tapestry of music that supported the deepest level of my intentions. It was a privilege to work with her." In addition to sharing her musical performances around the globe in concerts, and at conferences, universities, hospitals, museums, and retreat centers, Recent appearances include performances for the Children's Health Environmental Coalition where Sheryl Crow, Melissa Ethridge and Olivia Newton- John, Kenny Loggins and Clint Black were among the headliners. As she continues her travels with her magical flute, Maria transforms notes into intimate and global portraits of sound.
