Although they emerge to play driven shows of original work, Koan thrives on writing and recording their sound.

Vocalist, Ross Crockett, is consumed with pursuing his passion. With a lyric, or a tone, or a simple glance, he aims for the individual masses.

Jeff McLellan lives guitar. Devoted to the search of new simplicity, he tries to play what the song needs. Whether it is he who effects the song, or the song that affects him, it is unclear. He is a slave to never reaching the finished product.

In the tonal basement lives Shawn Burke. Whether soothing or stinging the resonance of his bass defines the song's mood. A minimalist with maximum ability, he underplays for effect.

Francis Mella drives the band. With his feet on the pedals, and his hands on the sticks, the song is given direction, pace, and pulse.

Bands can still be unique, fresh, and meaningful.
