It was after hearing "HELP" from "THE BEATLES" that triggered my inspiration for my devotion to music. At the age of three, when my grandmother purchased a drum kit, that she said I sat down, put the sticks in my hands and started playing like I knew exactly what to do. Rhythm is one of my strongest points, thou playing the drums was not what I pursued. I played violin and guitar for a short while and at the age of nine began my vocal direction in church choir, school chorus, along with vocal training. I was chosen for the NY State grand finale numerous times and what a great honor it was to be chosen as one of the best in New York.
Then at the age of nineteen decided it was time to come full circle. I re-taught myself by ear, how to play the guitar and with my voice, combined with capacity to create song, set out to start a band. It seemed that every musician played guitar, so playing bass became my instrument of choice. Being able to play both instruments, having the feel of rhythm and timing, realized how important the bass ties in all the parts when creating full accompaniment.
With such accomplishments of an EP, from self titled original project called "katzinjamma", which my grandmother had me nicknamed, we played the N.Y. club scene for five years at such venues like Lamours East, The Kat House, Club New as well as getting some airplay on college station WSOU.
I followed that up with a progressive rock project, which had taken my musicianship to a new level called Quintessence then later called ONE. Though the band had not taken itself to completion, I did get to meet my childhood favorite Tommy Shaw of STYX when he played in Damn Yankees, along with Ted Nugent and Jack Blades of Nightranger, Santana, Cheap Trick, and Vernon Read and Buzz of Living Color which paved the way to the next project called Claude's Front Pocket.
CFP influenced by a melting pot of bands in the alternative arena set the stage to being played on WRCN radio, having a notable critique of our album in the Musicians Exchange and notable mention in Newsday. We played the circuit for four years at the Elbow Room, Mercury Lounge and other popular venues as well as The Continental and approached by Push Records.
After that project came to disband, it was then time to put everything and everyone who had influenced my musical path, to put together my solo project called SUNRAYSDOWN inspired by the passing of my grandmother. No matter what, clouds or not, the SUNRAYSDOWN.
Performing and writing all aspects of music, of voice, guitar, bass and drum beats, I blend my influences creating a whole new sound in the new age rock genre. My "brand" of music, would be best described as taking you on a journey, words you can sing along to because they mean something, with a poetic sense you can relate to. When in full accompaniment, the music is heavy enough that you feel it, yet light enough all music lovers, young and old can appreciate and enjoy.
here are the words:
WE ALLOW:
power and control
manipulate there way
tell them everything
that they want to hear
you feast the blinded
this is your game
making all the rules
playing your way
you're lured right in
your words are far from the truth
just knowing determination
it's self designed
become this overwhelmed
there is no resistance.
TURN:
if your looking for the answer
you can find it on the other side
take the road, any road you can travel
you can always turn around.
there's a light
and it's just along the road
obstacles keep creating the holes
but you can find it if you just.
you can take control
turn around
don't you let them know
turn around
you're on your own
it's time to go
turn around.
so you're scared to find the answer
take my hand i'll help you to decide
don't let go, don't let go
we can do this all together
the SUNRAYSDOWN, here we go
we're on our way
so turn around, turn around
turn around, TURN.
BREAKFREE:
alone, alone in this room
staring, staring at four walls
envisioning, games
only solitude creates.
completely a new world
all one's very own
where the outside
discovers from a cellar gate
this chamber it seems
there is piece of mind.
though to the others
a punished childs fate
the mind grows stronger
and here these quarters
become sacred.
no one knows this soul of strength
the inner self that loneliness builds
no one knows what lies behind
the mind that holds his only escape.
removed from the keep
a picture of life appears
now enticed to be free
here labor bound encaged
playing the audience
critique with bitterness
as the outside world
plays upon the stage.
the mind is weakening
punishment becomes real
unable to help the soul.
