Details:
These boy's ain't retro, they have been listening and loving rock n' roll from the beginning. And I mean the beginning . These guys are not kids. It definitely shows in their debut album "About Freakin' Time".
Great hooks and great guitar and you start to have a sense of these guys It can be dirty muddy, 70's Stones, Classic instrumental Ventures, Haunting swamp blues with a ghost slide guitars, and you get more of an idea about the Late Bloomers. Great Country epics about married musician men , an inspirational In Your Own Special Way with a brilliant sax and drum solo that would have Aretha and Jerry Wexler smiling and tapping their feet and you're starting to hear what they can do. A beautiful guitar drenched ballad about a man looking back from the vantage point of life's hindsight with a gorgeous female backing vocal and the story of Every Man for Himself. A multi-textured guitar anthem about that sad but true fact of life, you've got to do it yourself, you can't count on none else. And an angry kid who grows up to be an angry man and plans on staying that way. Fathers in law, sister, mother, rabbis, there all fair game for this guys anger.
The drumming is mature and solid and the bass playing is rock steady . The vocals are spare and masculine with one brilliant performance from Sandy Griffith that has people floored, and a ethereal background vocal from Chrissy of Angel Spit that just makes the song.

The Late Bloomers are a couple of hard working men who have had a passion for making music since they were in their teens. Bruce Romanoff picked up the guitar at age 15 and taught himself how to play by ear. He played in numerous bands during the sixties in the very competitive club scene in New york city. His best known band was Leon and the Buicks who had a tremendous following. During the mid 70's he toured the US ,Europe and Brazil with George and Gwen McCrae. After the tour the band went their seperate ways. Bruce went on to become a studio musician recording with artist's such as. George and Gwen McCrae, Dave "Baby"Cortez ,Life,U>S>A...and many local groups in the NYC area. Since then Bruce has become a successful Master Carpenter, and owns his own construction company. Kevin Kearny picked up the guitar at the age of 10 and hasn't put it down since. He was the All American Boy. Bright, Great Athlete and Handsome. He starred at U.C. Berkeley in baseball and was on his way to the major leagues with the Oakland A's organization when a back injury cut him short. He was a railroad man for several years. Always the guitar was with him. He always found time to play in groups around Alameda Ca. This place is amazing . For such a small little island it has more than its share of great musicians. Kevin played with them all and is well respected among his peers . He became a very successful CPA and raised a talented ballerina with his wife Kelly. He plays hard rock, great slide and very funky bass
The music was a collaboration of Bruce, Kevin, and other amazing musicians featured on the album. however most lyrics have been written over the years by Bruce. Married Musician Man was written 30 years ago after having to leave his new bride home while on tour. I'm Angry is an F U to all the hard times life has brought, and the every day stuff that can drive you crazy. Every Man for Himself was written after having learned a good lesson from a so called friend. If you've ever missed your spouse, been frustrated by life, or learned the hard way this album is for you.
