Details:
I began playing acoustic and electric guitar at about age 10. After playing in several bands through my teenage years I entered college as a music major at San Diego State University. I studied Classical/Spanish guitar with Lee Ryan (head of guitar studies at SDSU Music Dept.) I formed The Orion Guitar Quartet (inspired by the Romero Quartet in San Diego) as a result of this experience. We performed what little music was available for a guitar quartet and I added several arrangments of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. We cut one album. I studied Composition as a graduate and have continued to compose instrumental/vocal music consistently through the years. Since moving to Utah my life has taken many turns, both musical and none musical, but my love for the guitar has never wavered. I favor simple, clear melodies with strong rhythmic support. Beethoven once said that there is a river full of melodies and that as composers we simply tap into this river and pull out one of the infinite amount of melodies that have already been written. Melodies would actually then be found and not composed. I have never forgotten this metaphor.
