Details:
Violinist Gwen Laster brings an inventive and eclectic sound to the art of improvisational violin.

She fuses together her classically trained technique with influences of traditional and contemporary Jazz and a twist of sultry melodies and groovin beats.

Gwen has most recently recorded on "The Diary of Alicia Keys" CD and has been featured on Shaggy's "Strength of a Woman" and "It Wasn't Me" CD's.

Her latest solo CD"I HEAR YOU SMILING" features Gwen on violin and vocals. It also includes Biti Strauchn on vocals with instrumentalists Damon Banks/Producer,Carlton Holmes,Joe Scott,Herbie Maitlandt, Wali Muhammad, Aubrey Dayle, Tony Lewis and Neil Clarke.

Her performance experiences have expanded greatly since relocating from Detroit to New York in 1993.
Broadway Shows including Miss Saigon, Carousel, Beauty and the Beast and the NY club scene set the groundwork for Gwen's creative outlets.

Her opportunities continued to flourish through television performances for Brian McKnight, Aretha Franklin, Jon Faddis' Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Deborah Cox, Teddy Riley, recordings for Alicia Keys, Angie Stone and tours within the USA.,Canada, Japan, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Being no stranger to the European Classical music scene and having earned both Bachelor and Masters' degrees from the University of Michigan School of Music, her orchestral and chamber music ensembles include the Staton Island Symphony, the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, the West End Symphony, the Lake George Opera Festival performances with her own String Quartet as well as Solo violin gigs.

Gwen began classical training on violin in the public schools of Detroit. She was surrounded by her mother's love for blues, jazz and R&B, a progressive high school orchestra teacher turning her on to improvisation on electric violin and the Motown Sound.
