Details:
In his senior year in high school, Dennis Angel had to decide between going to Julliard or a general liberal arts college followed by law school. Although he has never regretted his decision to become a lawyer, the trumpet has remained an important part of his life.
During his four years in high school he took private lessons from the esteemed teacher William Vacchiano, who was at the same time giving lessons to Miles Davis. With his brothers, Robert (keyboards) and Steven (drums), cousin Neal (guitar) and friend Kent (sax), a band they formed played on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour. Brothers Bob and Steve later formed the band 3½ which went on tour with Hermanâs Hermits. Steve also recorded with Jimi Hendrix and did an album with Noel Redding.
To help pay for college and law school, Dennis played in the Catskill Mountains in the summers. Through the years he has kept up his playing at local clubs and restaurants and charitable events. More recently, he has teamed up with three long standing very talented New York professional musicians, David Shaich, bass, who performs regularly at The Cotton Club, Joel Mofsenson, piano, credits include âI Love My Wifeâ, âDreamgirlsâ, âplayed with Barry White and Tony Orlando, and Mike Campenni, drummer, who has performed with Gill Coggins (pianist with Miles Davis), Ted Anson and Gordon Edwards (from the band Stuff).
The six songs on this CD represent jazz trumpet favorites from the 1920s to the 1960s originally performed by such trumpet greats as Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. We hope you enjoy our interpretation of their classic jazz pieces. I would like to dedicate this CD in memory of my parents, Morris and Roslyn, and daughter Ilana. I would like to thank my wife Linda and daughters, Stephanie, Michele and Rebecca, for their patience with my practicing and â¦â¦â¦..with my playing.
