Some performers defy easy categorization. Les Pillitteri is one of them. By offering his own take on what can best be described as folk-roots-rock music, Les is a long-overdue tonic to those who seek out fresh voices and stories, something real and pure. You'll know the difference as soon as you hear it. It's the voice in your head and the lyrics that resonate; the melody you can't shake; the rhythm you still can feel the next day.
When Colorado's Riff Magazine reviewed Les Pillitteri, they compared his voice to that of a Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, or Tom Waits. They described his songs as "authentic, glowing, and truthful." Les also has been compared to Lyle Lovett, Dave Matthews, and Chris Isaak. And, while these comparisons are welcome, they don't fully capture what Les does-as is the case with any truly original artist. In every performance, with every song, Les consistently avoids the obvious pop/rock lyrical cliches. He plays to his strengths, going for the unexpected, the timeless, and the universal. He makes the music he hears in his head, not on the radio.
Les was with successful touring bands playing throughout the western United States for much of his musical career-first with The Responders and later with Nuvudu. He's also done extensive session work and played with several of Denver's favorite performers, including Neil Haverstick for several years, as well as The Roland Brothers. In Denver, as both a soloist and as a member of other groups, he's performed at Herman's, The Boulder Theater, The Paramount, The Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Swallow Hill, The Buell, The People's Fair, The Colorado Performing Arts Festival and KBCO's Studio C among other venues. In Nashville, Les was given a showcase at the legendary Bluebird in addition to winning several songwriting contests. While there, he affiliated with BMI to form Juju Alarm Music Publishing
With over 100 original songs in his catalog, Les Pillitteri is one of the most notable, versatile-and watchable-singer-songwriters performing in Colorado today. With each performance people see for themselves what others already know: Les Pillitteri is an original: a modern-day troubadour who communicates and heals in his native tongue: the language of music.
