An emotional, cinematic mix of electronic based trip hop and alternative. Film noir at its best.

9 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Trip Hop, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
Founded in 1999 by singer/songwriter Adrien Mccarthy in New York, Lightfromadeadstar mix the gritty, film noir formulas of electronic based trip hop with lush, multi layered guitars and alternative rock. Their debut e.p. "Everyone I Love Is Gone" (released in 1999 on McCarthy's 8D8Music label), was applauded by fans and critics alike for its startling mix of electro heavy melodies and melancholy, emotional lyrics. A supporting tour followed and the bands "all live" approach to shows quickly began turning heads. The band was invited to the 1999 and 2000 CMJ festivals in NYC and the South By Southwest festival in Texas. Their performances at each as well as shows in and around NYC gave the band a considerable fan base and an overwhelming amount of positive press. McCarthy spent most of 2001 scoring a film that would later win him the Best Original Score award at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. While composing the score for the film, McCarthy began to layout the blueprint for a second Lightfromadeadstar release. A one off single, "Valotte" was released in late 2001 to tide fans over while new material was being written. Valotte became one of the most downloaded songs on MP3.com that year. The b-side drum & bass remix (produced by McCarthy with fellow
label mate Lorelei Fraser) became a huge underground club hit and was featured in DJ sets around the world.
For two years, McCarthy developed the second Lightfromadeadstar album "The Missing". Planned as a semi concept disc, the album would prove to be a much darker, cinematic and daring release than it's predecessor. Mixing bleak minimalist breakbeats with glitchy, angular samples, McCarthy set out to create an audible backdrop for love, lust and loss in a sprawling city. The first single "The Last Time" is an aggressive, sonic blast of guitar layers and New Order/Disintegration era Cure melodies while "There Is No Hesitation" is an erotic, electronic, club number. With a new band in tow featuring live drummer Ben Phelps and multi instrumentalists Jason Holt and David Ley, Lightfromadeadstar are set yet again to push the envelope of modern music forward.
