There are many talented entertainers in the music industry today. Many have worked hard for what they have and appreciate their success while others just went along for the thrill of being in the limelight but that is what separates artists from the everyday rapper. Only a handful of those artists have the determination to work until they reach a magnitude so high that itâs nearly impossible for society to ignore them. Meta-4, one of New Yorkâs few up-and-coming lyricists and song writer is undoubtedly in that handful. Growing up in both the cities of Asbury Park, New Jersey and Brooklyn, New York, Meta-4 learned to quickly adapt to living in two different worlds. Even though New Jersey and New York are bordering states theyâre completely different in a lot of aspects. Meta-4 utilized both experiences to his advantage by comparing both cities and making metaphoric references to social prosperity and poverty.
Influenced by an older cousin who was known for his smooth delivery of rhyming as well as being a regular in prison, 13 year-old Meta-4 picked up rapping and soon took over where his cousin left off because of his legal trouble. Now slowly but surely rising to the pinnacle of his career, Meta-4 is starting to notice the dreams he once aspired become a reality. Although he cold-heartedly departed a rap group, due to tension within the members, people find it hard to imagine him as being any thing other than a solo artist anyway. Now independently making moves from BETâs Freestyle Friday to various shows, interviews, and mixtape appearances, he shows no sign of slowing down. In a year when average album sales resemble the presidentâs salary (300,000) most artists have no choice but to feel uneasy about releasing anything where the sales get documented. However, Meta-4 is everything but worried as he prepares for the late winter release of his first street album âRap Ramadonâ. Without using a pen or pad, he humbly grabs words from out of space and puts them together like magic. That, along with his unique flow and swagger lead people to say âYou must be from a different planet.â
In 2009, heâs making it his responsibility to give the people what they want and what they need. It's a difference according to him. âWhat they WANT is something catchy and/or something they can dance to. What they NEED is quality songs with hard and meaningful lyrics.â So when he gives you both sides of the coin, it's history in the making. âPay attention to everything I say in my songs because it all means something beyond what your average rapper is putting together.
