The Man

Who is the man? Mr. Raggedy. My name is Curtis Ballard I was born in Miami Florida. I attended Miami Killian Senior High. It was there that I discovered my hidden talent. My passion for putting words together and writing songs. Since then, music has been one of my greatest ambitions. However, it wasn't until ten years ago after the devastating storm hurricane Andrew that I was able to begin building my music career. the darkness of that August night will forever be associated with distruction and pain. But for me it was one of triumph and victory. After that storm was over I began to build my recording studio. With the help of my brother and friends brick by brick, block by block we built and established Demo World Recording Studio. After graduating from high school I attended The Career Institute of America where I studied Music business and Music Production. It was there that I learned sound engineering and how to produce music. I was exposed to video editing, concert and stage lighting, copyrights and contract laws. For the past ten years I have devoted my time into developing new and up-coming artist as well as myself.

The Writer

Who is the writer? The word most associated with my lyrics is "deep". When I grab my pencil and sit down in front of a sheet of paper I don't limit myself to being just a rapper. I visualize myself as a writer no different from William Shakespeare, Earnest Hemmingway or Mia Angalou. In writing I find freedom, the freedom to explore my mind and write beyond the boundaries of the normal imagination. Utilizing that concept, my lyrics have become so vivid that listening to each song is like watching a movie.

The Artist

Who is the artist? For the past twelve years I have performed on over one hundred stages. Local nightclubs, parades and The Miami Arena are just a few of the venues. I have been the opening act for many of the major artists that visited the South Florida area. My stage show is very explosive. I bring to the stage theatrics and showmanship.

The Concept

What is the concept? The concept is to bring a new perspective of life. The Black August Project deals with patience, resisting temptation, how to conduct relationships, accepting responsibility and how to ask for forgiveness. The title "The Black August project" comes from that dark day August 24, 1992 that began my humbling growth process. To show that even out of the dark comes light and out of distruction can come victory. Therefore the name Mr. Raggedy was purposely chosen to serve as a seperation from the fake riches of the earth and dealing with the true wealth of man which is Soul.
