Details:
In a music industry saturated with over-produced pop princesses and scantily-clad divas, Jody Schneiderâs voice stands out as a down-to-earth, raw, and very real breath of fresh air. Often compared to the likes of Sarah McLachlan and Chantal Kreviazuk, Schneider heralds the return of the heart-on-your-sleeve, pretense-free tradition of female singer/songwriters that had all but disappeared in the past few years.
Though she counts McLachlan, Kreviazuk, Tori Amos, and Alanis Morrisette as major influences, Schneider has assembled a band of versatile musicians who name very different influences â Apocalyptica, Social Distortion and the Foo Fighters, to name a few. Bassist Lance Stewart, drummer Nate Schneider, and guitarist Rob Bateman are all alumni of garage bands that played bars and skate parks, but took a chance on collaborating on something that would stretch their creative talents in a different direction. The result is an eclectic meeting of charismatic piano melodies and robust, rhythmic rock-band sensibilities that do not sacrifice strength for beauty, nor beauty for strength.
For the past few years, Jody Schneiderâs fan base has been steadily growing both in Idaho and her homeland of Canada, just on the strength of compelling live performances, a handful of old hastily-recorded tracks from 2002 available on MySpace, and several months on the Lucky 13 countdown on University Pulse Radio at Boise State University. But this summer will introduce the next chapter.
September 6th brought the release of her new EP â(un)drasticâ, a five-song opus that showcases the ironically very drastic progression of her voice and songwriting since the 2002 recordings, and introduces the contributions of the band. Fans who have been devotees of the âyoung-girl-and-her-pianoâ naïveté of the old tracks will not be disappointed. â(un)drasticâ retains all of the angst and heart that have long been Schneiderâs trademark, while growing up just enough to allow for the broadening and maturing of her talents, both as a singer/songwriter and as a musician.
