The people of Argentina and Finland share a passion for tango. These geographically distant nations meet in the multi-cultural New York, through the music of Tango Republic.

Tango Republic was born out of a love for tango and the desire to play music by such masters as Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel and the Finnish grand old man, Toivo Kärki.

All the members of Tango Republic were already accomplished musicians in other musical genres, ranging from jazz to classical, who wanted to explore this language of desire and passion, both through performance and composition.

An international quintet consisting of musicians from the Americas and Europe plays Argentinean tangos and milongas, tango classics from Finland, as well as original compositions by the band members.

The crossover instrumentation â violin, woodwinds, piano, bass and drum set â explores new dimensions of sound and style, and offers a new musical experience.

This recording contains some of the most successful repertoire that Tango Republic ever performed.
