Terry Kinakinâs new CD, Neither Here Nor There, reveals that this hot new Nashville artist is definitely going places.

Blending a bit of the past (think swing of the â30s & â40s), with a touch of the future (jazz progression), a dash of humor, a splash of sophistication (intricate arrangements), and large amounts of originality (in composition and performance), Kinakin has created a very tasty feast for the ears.

âThis project is representative of the musical friends and genres that have left their fingerprints on my writing and playing,â Kinakin commented. â I came from a traditional New Orleans jazz background, and worked my way through the Dâjango swing styles all the way to bluegrass and blues. Add to that the Grisman and new acoustic jazz influences of today and you get a sense of the journey.â

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Kinakin started playing Dixieland banjo at the tender age of six. He hit every major stage from Montreal to the shores of British Columbia and gained notoriety as âCanadaâs Foremost Plectrum Banjo Player.â His acting and musical comedy talents brought him key roles in summer stock theatre. When love entered the picture, he pulled up his roots and headed south to marry his Wisconsin-bred sweetheart!

In Milwaukee, Kinakin split his time between teaching, recording, performing, and running his own painting/wall covering business. He has played mandolin, banjo and guitar with numerous bands (Dixieland, country, swing, folk, blues and bluegrass) and toured throughout forty states.

âThis CD had to be birthed,â Kinakin said. âThere were simply too many tunes filling my head and heart. I was writing in the car, the shower (indelible ink), and in the middle of the night. Finally, it was either record or die!â

Kinakinâs producer on Neither Here Nor There, Allen des Noyers, is a noted Vancouver musician. âAllen is an extremely talented, technical and creative genius. Being childhood friends, we had a blast doing this project.â

Now Nashville is Kinakinâs home where he performs locally with his band called Terry and the Catâz PâJammers. This hot five piece group plays Kinakinâs original songs along with a few select standards. Neither Here Nor There is currently available at several Nashville area music stores and on the Internet. A label and nationwide distribution is being sought.
