An excellent throwback to the '70s New York rock band, complete with a great sense of humor, and fine musical sensibilities. -Andrew Aber, The Village Voice

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: 70's Rock

Details:
Lonehawk has bucked expectations and borders since the band began in early 2000. Keyboardist and lead singer Dan Lubell, growing sick of what passed for pop music, set out to find cohorts who pined for the days when pop was synonymous with quality rock n' roll. He found guitarist/producer Jon Abrams and drummer Ben Sibley, and recorded a set of demos which made the rounds as Get A Load Of Now. The trio quickly secured gig after gig around town, adding bassist Alex Stimmel and second guitarist Nick Zarin-Ackerman. Lonehawk's original compositions were given a full breath of life in the quintet's live show, their melodic structures recalling what the Beatles might sound like if they were backed by the Meters. It was only a matter of time before more songs were ready to be recorded, and word had begun to spread.

Soon Lonehawk was selling out shows at Brownies, Wetlands, and the Elbow Room, and had tightened their approach to arranging and playing. But just as the club scene was making waves within New York, the band retreated to the studio for six months to record their proper debut album, the self-produced Lonehawk.
