Lucy Martinez grew up on Long Island to a very animated and musically oriented family. Her Italian dad, Puerto Rican mom and three siblings made for a crazy household. Lots of temperament and turmoil, as you can imagine with such a fiery brew. Her music reflects the intensity and passion that goes along with such an upbringing. Her voice can go from a Joni Mitchell trill to a Janis Joplin wail at a moment's notice. She's fronted bands in New Hampshire, Boston and Maryland and then came back to Boston to stay as a solo performer. Popular Baltimore area D.J. Damian Einstein frequently played her song, Knock Down the Wall, on his morning music show. Eve Zibart of the Washington Post wrote that Lucy's "voice has a crystalline ballad thrill". Lucy likes to dig down deep and get to the dark spaces. She has created some beautiful music that delivers small slices of life in all of its beauty, poignancy and imperfect goodness.
