Mai-Khoi Do was born in 1983 at Cam Ranh, a harbor town in the South-Central Vietnam, the eldest of 2 siblings. She has her musician father to thank for her career.

Folk tunes running in her blood caused her the passion to sing as a tiny nightingale. Invited to be a backing vocalist, Khoi headed to a bigger job as a soloist. She sang in local pubs, which is how she practiced and develop her skills to perform for a live audience.

Word of Khoi's talent was spreading, and she was finally discovered by a well-known composer in Vietnam, Quoc-Bao and signed to Phuong Nam Co., a record company in Saigon.
