Artist's Description
James Mayo (Mayo) was blessed as a child to hear all styles of music. Sharon Mayo, his mother and the Minister of Music in his church, had Mayo in a gospel choir at a very young age. Her influence did not stop there; Mayo is a huge fan of movie musicals dating back to the 50's. Through musicals, he developed a love for creating songs from everyday life experiences. Growing up listening to old school R&B acts like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and The Temptations set the standard for what Mayo considers great music. As a teenager, hip hop and songs by popular artists Prince, Madonna, and 2pac influenced Mayo lyrically and musically for life.
Mayo started taking piano and guitar lessons, and formed an R&B male group called 1st Impression. The five piece boy band won several local talent shows around Nashville, before they gave up like most groups. Mayo then studied classical music at Aquinas College, to expand his musical knowledge while working on his business degree and fulfilling his basketball scholarship obligations.
In the late months of 2001, Mayo joined a Hard Rock act. During this time he realized the pure intense drive behind ripping guitar leads and double bass kits. He fronted his band with all his passion. After realizing that he has much to offer the music world, Mayo began his quest for a solo career. In 2005, Mayo has just released his independent CD, "Get Ur Mind Rite."
Mayo founded and organizes for www.onthe9entertainment.com, which helps many artists in Nashville, TN and surrounding areas. Mayo now hosts, edits, and produces a music video TV show for his hometown, Music City. Through On the 9 Entertainment, he recently launched OT9 Clothing Line. Finally, he is currently producing a hip-hop group, "The Crowns". Mayo is committed to Building Bridges Through Music.
