FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Country Pop
Details:
Melissa Brewer is a singer songwriter based in Seattle, Washington. "Road to Feeling Right" is her debut CD. She has been compared to a wide range of singers including Norah Jones and Melissa Ethrigde. Her musical influences include Carol King, Anita Baker and Shawn Colvin.
Most of Brewer's confessional lyrics play like diary entries, from "Falling" a catchy folk-pop tune about life after a break up, to the ethereal "More Like You" on which she reveals her insecurities about fitting in with the rest of the world.
"I hold things in except when I compose songs so my topics tend to be from the darker side of life." "In a Little While" a song she wrote based on a family member's battle with manic depression, is the darkest piece on the album. "When I perform this song for audiences, I am always surprised by the number of people who later tell me they really connect with it."
In April of 2002 Brewer was diagnosed with an early stage of breast cancer. The title track of this record "Road To Feeling Right" is a hauntingly intimate tune she wrote near the end of her treatment. "I wrote this song as a way to remind myself not to take today for granted."
Brewer is joined by a talented group of Northwest players on this self-produced album including Ben Smith on percussion (currently touring with Heart), Grammy award winning bass player and sound engineer Garey Shelton and John Morton on guitar. Platinum-selling producer Tom Hall (Queensryche) mixed the Album.
