Melomane is a French word.
It has nothing to do with hippies or being "mellow, man." In fact it has everything to do with voracious craving and loving -- of music, from the pop on the radio to the angelic choirs in your head.
Resolve, thier first album, was released in 2001.
In addition to the Tropicalia-tinged "Just Because" and the dark, jittery "Fireflies," the recording also features a re-interpretion of Men At Work's '80s classic "Overkill" as a ballad. The intimate vocal duet and spare instrumentation reveals a new dimension of the song.
Fronting Melomane is Paris-born, San Diego-raised singer, songwriter and guitarist Pierre de Gaillande. He is a veteran of bands such as Creedle, Morning Glories, and Film Star.
Drummer Kenny Savelson also recorded and toured with Morning Glories and the C. Gibbs Group in addition to touring with Foetus and occasional performances with Bee & Flower.
Keyboarder Quentin Jennings had his first 15 minutes of fame in two-hit-wonder Britpop band The Dylans.
Daria Klotz adds her bass playing, sweet harmonies, vocals, and ukelele virtuosity to the Melomane mix. As busy as she is talented, Daria's collaborations include touring and recording with God is My Co-Pilot, Moonlighters and Vanity Set.
Swiss-born "Privateman" Frank Heer spices the Melomane sound with cello and keyboard chops.
And let's not forget Brad Stewart: fluent in Russian and gifted at the trumpet.
